Lindsay Ladd is a corporate and non profit event photographer based in Baltimore, Maryland, serving clients across DC, Maryland, Delaware, and beyond, with 15 years of experience and 500+ gigs photographed.

If you're evaluating Baltimore venues for a conference, symposium, corporate event, or large-scale gathering, the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront deserves a serious look. I photographed the 35th USENIX Security Symposium there in August 2026, a major international academic conference on computer security and privacy, and spent ten hours moving through nearly every event space the hotel offers.

Here's what I observed from the inside, with notes on the venue itself, the spaces, and what it's actually like to photograph events there.

About the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront

Located at 700 Aliceanna Street in Baltimore's Harbor East neighborhood, the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront sits directly on the edge of the Inner Harbor. The hotel was named a CVENT Top Meeting Hotel for 2026 and it's easy to see why - the scale is impressive: over 80,000 square feet of total event space, 44 event rooms, 41 breakout rooms, and four separate ballrooms each situated on its own floor. That floor-by-floor ballroom structure is a feature worth understanding before you book.

The hotel underwent significant renovation updates in 2025, and the spaces feel current with new carpeting, wall treatments, and lighting fixtures throughout the event spaces. The Harbor East location gives attendees walkable access to a dense stretch of restaurants, bars, and night life, which matters for multi-day events where attendee experience factors into the venue decision.

To inquire about booking an event, you can submit a request for proposal directly through Marriott's events page at marriott.com, or call the hotel at 410-385-3000.

Baltimore Marriott Waterfront as a Conference Venue

The Grand Ballroom

The grand ballroom on the third floor is the centerpiece of the hotel's conference offering. At 19,140 square feet with 20-foot ceilings, it's an enormous room that can accommodate up to 2,800 guests for a reception, 2,400 theater-style, or 1,440 in a schoolroom configuration. What makes it particularly flexible is that it divides into ten separate sections, ranging from Salon I through Salon X, which can be configured in combinations to suit almost any multi-track programming need.

At the USENIX conference that I photographed, the Grand Ballroom was divided into five separate technical session rooms with full floor-to-ceiling dividers, each running simultaneous programming throughout the whole day. The dividers did a really good job and barely any sound carried between the divided sections.

Each section functioned as a fully independent room with its own stage and projection setup.

The Grand Foyer

The Grand Foyer sits adjacent to the Grand Ballroom on the third floor and serves as the natural gathering and circulation space during breaks and between sessions. It is window-lined with subtle golden decor accents throughout, which flood the space with natural, warm ambiance and creates a very workable environment for candid photography.

During the USENIX conference this is where the most active networking happened: the foyer filled completely between sessions, and the light coming through those windows made the space feel open and alive rather than the typically dim, corridor-like feel of many hotel pre-function spaces.

For a conference organizer, the foyer is worth thinking about intentionally. It's spacious enough to accommodate coffee stations, sponsor tables, and large crowds simultaneously without feeling cramped.

The Grand Foyer has it all: lots of natural light from large windows and high ceiling (a dream for this candid event photographer). And it also is a wide enough space for catering set ups and vendor tables.

The Harborside Ballroom

At 14,388 square feet on the fourth floor, the Harborside Ballroom is the hotel's second largest space and the one most likely to host your symposium luncheon, gala dinner, or evening reception. It divides into five sections (Salons A through E) and can accommodate up to 2,000 for a reception or 1,200 for a banquet. For the USENIX conference it hosted both the midday symposium luncheon and the evening reception.

The Waterview Ballroom

Smaller than the Harborside at 2,996 square feet, the Waterview Ballroom sits on the ground floor and has its own entrance and outdoor patio overlooking the Inner Harbor. Floor-to-ceiling waterfront views are the defining feature here, making it particularly well-suited for executive meetings, cocktail receptions, or any event where the setting is meant to make an impression. It accommodates up to 232 theater-style or 200 for a reception, and divides into four sections.

The Skyview Terrace and Skyview Ballroom

The hotel's newest addition, completed in 2025. The Skyview Terrace is a 6,110-square-foot outdoor space that can accommodate up to 250 for a reception. The adjoining Skyview Ballroom adds 2,200 square feet of indoor space seating up to 260 theater-style, with a terrace that opens directly to Inner Harbor views. For outdoor evening receptions or hybrid indoor-outdoor events, this is a distinctive option that most comparable Baltimore conference hotels don't offer.

The Boardroom and Smaller Meeting Rooms

For organizations that need focused breakout sessions or smaller executive meetings alongside a larger conference, the hotel has 41 breakout rooms in addition to its four ballrooms. The Boardroom is 840 square feet and seats 16 for a conference setup. These smaller rooms range from roughly 425 to 1,800 square feet and support theater, schoolroom, U-shape, and conference configurations at various scales.

On-Site Services and AV

The hotel provides a full range of on-site event services including a certified meeting planner, AV technician, LCD projectors, microphones, PA systems, wireless internet, videoconferencing, and a complete suite of business services including on-site business center, copy service, and overnight delivery.

Catering is offered in-house across a range of formats, from coffee breaks at ~$35 per person to full dinners at ~$95 per person. The hotel also participates in Marriott's Rewarding Events program, which allows event organizers to earn up to bonus points when booking events.

What It's Like to Photograph Here

The venue is well-suited for conference and event photography for a few specific reasons. The Grand Foyer's large-windowed natural light during daytime sessions is an exceptionally nice experience for conference attendees who are often in windowless large conference rooms for much of the day. And, because of that abundant natural light, it is a cinch to take amazing candid photos of guests enjoying themselves.

The Grand Ballroom has a large chandelier surrounded by dramatic circular recessed lights which produce plenty of light to photograph moving subjects without the use of flashes. However, each event is different and dimmer lighting may be utilized for ambiance, so photographers photographing here should be prepared with additional strobes and flashes in their kit just in case.

The multi-floor ballroom structure means that different spaces have genuinely different photographic environments rather than feeling like variations of the same room, so that produces images with more varied backdrops.

Getting There and Nearby

The hotel is located at 700 Aliceanna Street, Baltimore, MD 21202, in the Harbor East neighborhood; an area known for its lux shops and walking promenades along the water. It sits within walking distance of Fells Point to the east and the Inner Harbor to the west - both chock full of restaurants, night life, and more, which offers attendees a dense range of dining and after-hours options within easy walking distance.

The western exterior of the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront is directly adjacent to the harbor and a long walking promenade where guests can relax and enjoy the sights in between sessions.

Parking is available through the hotel directly, although that's the most expensive option. There are multiple garages and parking lots within a block or two that offer lower rates (~$30/day).
